Devious Journal Entry

Wed Nov 25, 2009, 9:14 PM
Hiyas! Sorry I haven't been around... I've been slinking away from forums and whatnot these past few months. It would have continued if I hadn't been invited to beta test ZBrush... ;P

I'll probably be vanishing again shortly, however.

Nevertheless, thanks for stopping by!

Artists as Neuroscientists

There's a great article in Psychology Today which talks about neuroaesthetics, and more importantly, perceptual principles of great art:

Or, more simply put, READ IT SO THAT YOU KNOW HOW TO MAKE YOUR ART MORE EFFECTIVE. ;)

The article summarizes the ten perceptual principles at the end.

Drawing Superheroes

Sat Jul 25, 2009, 12:06 AM
Ran across some neat videos showing six different comic book artists drawing different characters:

John Romita & Joe Kubert
John Buscema & Bill Sienkiewicz
And a third I'm having trouble linking, with Dave Gibbons & Travis Charest...

I really liked watching Bill Sienkiewicz draw Elektra, though I think not everyone appreciates his style.

Cool to see the different styles and tools though. :)

Swamp God

Pretty insightful rumination on God and mankind seven minutes into this clip: [link]

Maybe a non-interventionist God is a good thing.

Advice from Alan

It's so great to actually see Alan Moore speaking:

He looks like such a scary dude in his book photos, and his decision to remove his name and refuse money from movie adaptations of his works... it's great to see how down-to-earth he really is.

I have so much admiration for his work, especially the 'League of Extraordinary Gentlemen' comics.

And it's funny to see how he decided to become a magician and follow his own god:
